Zopilote Surfcamp...bliss!

Location: Zopilote Surfcamp, Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica
Date: 25 February – 5 March

We arrived at 7-ish in the evening which meant that it is dark in Costa Rica and dinner time at Zopilote Surfcamp. We immediately joined the group for dinner which was “kartoffelsalad un wurst”, which was delicious! After dinner we got a quick tour around camp, meaning we knew where the shower, loo and our bed was as in the darkness it was difficult to show the whole camp.

when the bell rings at 7, it is DINNER TIME!
From 2011 - Costa Rica - Album 1

At 8-ish the main house ( which is the gathering place of the camp) started to get quiet, bedtime was early here at the camp we noticed. Which I may add was strange to us for one day as the following day we as well longed for our bed very early in the evening. When we found our bed and listened to the waves crashing onto shore we were exciting to see what the next day would bring.

Our Rancho
A typical day at the surf camp is:
6-8AM: early surf session (which is the most fun session)
8.30 AM: Breakfast
10 - 12 AM: morning surf session
12 – 3PM: relaxing time
3-6PM:- Afternoon surf session ( followed by a gorgeous sunset!)
7PM : Dinner ( which is seriously delicious every single time!!!!!!)

We slept in one of the 2 rancho’s which at the max we shared with 5 other peeps. Luckily that was only 2 days and most of the time it was just 3 people in total.  All is open air so next to having a roof on top of our heads we listened to the monkeys, birds, frogs and crickets at night and not to forget the ocean. The sunset
Next to very eager ( and jealous making good surfers) more permanent guests of the camp are 5 dogs (respectively lassie, lucy, cabo, Ivy and charlito), 1 horse that walks around freely (Campari) and 2 cats which for the life of me I can’t remember the names of!

Surf dudes (and Ivy the dog):

Waking up was such an experienced. When dawn breaks you can hear the boys waxing their boards ready to hit the waves. This normally is a cue for the guests as well and we joined them most of the mornings. Well we surfed the white water whilst we jealously looked over at the line-up where they were hitting the best waves ( ARG!!! Did I mention we are jealous?)

In the afternoon when it is too hot to surf everyone kind of scatters around the camp and we either read a book in one of the hammocks, on the beach or in our rancho.

In the late afternoon we went back ( sore bodies or not most of the time we managed to go back, darn those blue bruises, painful ribs and ever so sore knees...I can hear Nico scream DON”T USE YOUR KNEES!) most of the time to be washed over but in the end we did managed to sit in the line-up joined by fellow campmates... or some RAYS J

Walking back to camp
After a week we were sorry to say goodbye but we also looked forward to our diving trip in Playa del coco. So much to see and do in so little time........

We can surf now..... well kind off :)

Jealous much?
