Leg 1: Dushi Curacao

Date: 13-01-2010
Location: Aruba

Can’t believe it. We are here. Well almost because whilst typing this we are on the ground but not the right island yet. Aruba was the first stop and after this we’ll be heading to Aeropuerto Hato ( airport of Curacao).
We had some very hectic days in Holland with lack of sleep. However this is all part of the deal and we shouldn’t moan because the time we have ahead of us is incredible. We look very much forward to the time spend together . The last years we have been living on auto pilot and it is time to drive take over the wheel ourselves again.

Whilst Remco is reading his book, “de rust zelve” as we say in Dutch ( one of his fav writers : Matthew Reilly) I am actually a bit nervous an jittery. I am always nervous before touching down on Hato. As a student coming back from Holland going home I remember sitting in the plane around Christmas time ( with a whole lot of other “returning kids” ) all jittery with our best clothes on and suitcases packed with presents and Dutch goodies. All having missed our hometown, all very sick of the cold weather, all looking forward to the time we could spend with family and friends most of them we haven’t seen for 6 months. Basically we looked forward to be taken care off, the inner kid was ready to come out again. We might be very independent young students all living on our own in a very strange country, with completely different customs. It is nice that your mom makes that one meal that you like so much or the fact that when coming home there is a clean WC ( we all know what student house toilets look like!!!).

So now I am sitting here, jittery as that student but not in my best clothes ( I opted for the comfy clothing), nervous and even though there is no mom or dad waiting for me I still look forward to it. This time we are here to stay and I will, possibly, build my own family here ( as scary as that may sound).  But will it live up to our expectations? Well there is only one way to find out..... First lets enjoy the next 9 months being free and exploring the world.

  1. So glad you're OK on your island, your 'new' home! My wish for you guys: enjoy live and follow your instincts, then all your expectations and dreams will come true. Big hug from Holland! Robert, Wanda & Annelotte
